Just a couple of quickies. Went to see The Pillowman the other night; it was funny in a disturbing kind of way, well worth seeing and evidence that posters in Metro stations are sometimes worthy of attention. Yesterday/today involved a trip to Blackpool, with a win on bingo, a hotel room with a haunted light fitting and total amnesia in respect of the rules for playing Dominoes.Wednesday 16 February 2005 10:32
Another day, another crime. Ian had his mobile nicked, in Sea, last night/this morning. That bloke has absolutely no luck with 'phones. Perhaps more importantly, though, what on earth was I doing there? And why was there a German in our cab?Sunday 13 February 2005 21:20
Yesterday was spent, as many Saturdays have been of late, tiling in Lucy and Ian's house. The end is now in sight, though. Anyway, to relax after a hard day's tiling, we decided on an excursion to Newcastle with Lucy and Ian. After several jugs of vodka and red bull in Gotham Town, someone (I've no memory as to whom) suggested going on to a club. The night ended with a missed cab, Ian almost being arrested for swearing, Ian relieving himself outside Gateshead magistrates court and Lucy having her wallet stolen. The following morning involved a Police description of Ian as confused and very drunk. All, however, agreed that it had been a good night. Today was spent sleeping, suffering and tiling.

It feels very strange to be typing this when I should be at work. But, of course, I should be grateful to Powergen for the morning off. It's now six weeks since our meter was changed and, by coincidence, six weeks since we've had a reliable electricity supply. During the past week and a bit, we've spent silly amounts of time on hold to various call centres and have suffered because we live out of area and because our account is still on our old system and hasn't been migrated yet.
I'll now occupy my last remaining seconds of electricity with a mouse story. Picture a cute, furry little grey thing; harmless really, eh? Now picture it a couple of weeks after death, firmly wedged (or rather glued by bodily fluids) between two pipes leading from the combi-boiler. Despite my best efforts with a chopstick, a screwdriver and a hand wrapped in an old T-shirt, the deceased creature put up a good fight and remained stuck to the pipes. During this time, there was much running around, screaming, retching and swearing.
Eventually, it released its grip in several stages (or, I should say, pieces) and we were able to begin a clean-up operation. Well, there was one piece which was discovered afterwards but it was drenched in bleach before it became unstuck and disappeared into the darkness behind a kitchen unit.
A man from Northern Electric just arrived. We have electricity again.Sunday 6 February 2005 18:59
