The Angel Inn

The Angel Inn, in Leeds, always reminds me of an old mate, with whom I lost touch a few years ago.

He was, probably still is, a nice bloke. The Pub is a nice pub. Well, it’s a Sam Smith’s pub, so nice, fishless beer is always plentiful. With a gap between trains, I called in for a pint of stout (a mere £2.30). Then had a second.

While I could have easily stayed longer, my only mate in Leeds is in Croydon right now, so a return to the station was in order. Via the Head of Steam.

Where a man brought flowers to me.

Returning to tbe Angel Inn, I should mention that it’s in a cool location.

I should also mention that the flowers were a form of advertising. I may have thanked the man for bringing flowers for me. He may also have said that I he did so because I appeared to be ‘sad and alone’.

Town Mouse

After a few hours working in the shed, and a shower to de-muck myself, I caught a bus to town. To buy a lampshade.

Feeling somewhat stressed after my shopping experience, I needed to find somewhere to rest and unwind. I’m now in the Town Mouse, where the landlorn embarrassingly greeted me by name. Still, I have a nice pint of Almasty pilsner.

If you’ve not yet tried it, the Town Mouse is a great little bar (micropub), with a most pleasant owner.

Thievery

This very evening, a scumbag stole my wallet. In South Shields. My wallet contained around £200, and, obviously, some cards.

My wallet, made from cork, was a gift, so I’m more bothered about that than the money.

I’ve reported the cards as stolen, so at least they can’t be used. But, sadly, I’m a few quid missing. I shall never go to South Shields again. Ever.

Fuckers.

Saltwell park festival

We were impressed with Chase Park festival yesterday, even though it took place in Saltwell Park this year. Which was a good thing since it’s a relatively short walk from the house.

It’s a small, one day thing, so the lineup wasn’ huge. But it was a cool event. And we enjoyed the Coral.

And with a bar from Wylam, with Jakehead on tap, what more could a man want.

Chimney

I had a pleasant day with gentlemen in Ouseburn yesterday. We began in Gateshead in Station East, crossing over the river to the Bridge Hotel. Then we called off at the Bridge Tavern and the Tyne Bar, before walking to the Cumberland Arms. And the Cluny, of course. And Arch 2. Afterwards, there were cabs back to town and the newly opened Newcastle Tap.

Incapable of my usual, local nightcap, I retired early.

Waking early this morning, I fitted the last piece of stove pipe, so I now have a working chimney.

This afternoon, we’re off to Chase Park festival, which isn’what I’d really call a festival, and isn’t actually in Chase Park. This year, it’s just down the road in Saltwell Park.

Country

This evening, after a visit to see grandchildren, and with a day off tomorrow, I may have spent too much time with Eddie Noack.

And some other blokes. I shall endeavour to take (drag) my second in command along one Thursday evening.

Time was also spent with, Eels, Sam Baker and Cyndi Lauper.

Hills are everywhere

We live on a big hill. Today we walked down to the Schooner. After a beer there, we walked across the river to the Tyne bar.

And then along the (other) river to the Cluny.

Where we had decent food.

And, now, we’re in the Cumberland Arms. Or, rather, outside it. Good music on a Sunday afternoon.

Most of these places also involved hills.
