Coolness

Two good things: Firstly, Netflix is now happily running under Ubuntu on the living room computer. It’s a workaround of course, with an add-on to Chrome emulating Firefox, but it works a treat.

Which does mean that I didn’t need to set the computer up with a Windows dual boot option. At least I’d not gotten around to installing Ubuntu on the bedroom computer, so I can just replace Windows when I do.

Secondly, Eels will be playing at the Sage in July. On a Saturday too. And tickets are on sale in the morning.

Happy.

Binocular spectacles

Came across these on eBay; I did seriously consider bidding. For display value only of course.

Apparently they’re ideal for football matches, sporting events and the theatre.

Bike

I’ve decided that, since I’ve barely ridden the bike I bought nine months ago, I should part company with it. I do have feelings of sadness, but the chainstay’s a weird shape and it bugs me.

Elbow

A friend of mine grows his very own brambles. Watching the old Elbow-BBC Philharmonic thing on YouTube. First time in ages and first time I’ve watched the whole thing in one go.

Classic films

While browsing SciFi content on Netflix, I’ve come across a whole range of rather excellent classic films. Well, I’m sure they were.

Apparently, in 1958, Mars looked like this (with visitors from Earth).

And the inhabitants were large bat-faced creatures with spider legs.

Zombie apocalypse

It’s definitely worth taking a look at the US Netflix. I’d not bothered, since I’m still working my way through a couple of TV series. But curiosity got the better of me.

There’re a ridiculous amount of ridiculously named zombie-themed films.

For example:

And, perhaps an obvious one:

Robinson Crusoe on Mars

As a kid of around twelve years old, I watched (and loved) a film called Robinson Crusoe on Mars. I’m sure it must’ve been shown on TV numerous times since, but I’ve never come across it again. Until now, that is. After only 40 years, I’ve found it on Netflix.

Deceased

As I’d suspected, the Epifection simulation has ended with my status as deceased. One of my offspring shares my status, while the other, and my second in command, have survived.

Earlier today, when checking my status, I noticed that there are some strangely named places round here.

Vaccine or treatment

The Epifection simulation asks anyone taking part a question or two every day. This morning, the question covered the choice between funds being used to develop a vaccine or treatment. I voted treatment, since most of the ‘population’ had already been exposed.

Just as well really.

The ‘infected’ person on the map must be:
a) someone picking up food from the takeaway next door
b) someone living in one of the flat conversions in the old church; or
c) me

I’m heading South tomorrow, so if I’m not that yellow marker on the map, then I may avoid infection.
