Glastonbury II

After Thursday’s failed attempt to secure Glastonbury tickets, I wasn’t at all hopeful for this morning’s, larger, sale. As usual, I waited 15 minutes to connect to the booking page, then there was the, again usual, countless refreshes.

All to no avail though. While the booking service unexpectedly didn’t crash, the festival site itself wouldn’t refresh, or show the usual Twitter feed. So I couldn’t see that it’d sold out until the booking page was updated.

We’ll probably try again in April, for the ticket resale, but with only small numbers I have to be realistic about the chance of success. There’s probably more chance with Oxfam stewarding, so we’re on their waiting list.

And, at the end of the day, there’s always 2019.

We did regret not booking an alternative festival this year, but at least that won’t happen next year. We’ve already bought tickets for Kendal Calling; Karl and Michelle are thinking of doing the same. And this might give us the nudge we need to try Sziget. We need to explore the logistics I think.

Glastonbury

Well, 18:00 today didn’t go very well today. The plan to go for Glastonbury with a coach package rather than wait for Sunday’s carnage just didn’t work.

I wouldn’t have been too bothered if 2018 wasn’t planned as a break year. But 2017 now seems unlikely.

This must now be the only UK festival to sell out. We do have Kendal Calling as a reserve, but (while it’s a great festival) it’s not quite the same.

We’ll try again on Sunday, but we’ll seriously need to find a decent alternative if we have no luck.

Mr Rouleau

We went to see my mate, and Glastonbury companion, Karl play in town the other night. While I had work the following day, and so only had a couple of pints of (very nice) beer, I really enjoyed the evening. As did my second in command.

And it was great to catch up with Karl and Michelle, another Glastonbury fellow camper. My second in command and Michelle also discussed broken legs.

My condition

A band called the First Edition broke up in 1975. You’ve not heard of them? They’d changed their name to Kenny Rogers and the First Edition a couple of years before.

My second in command was quite taken by Mr Rogers’ performance at Glastonbury a few years Ago.

So, worth listening to this

XSLF

My mate Dave and I enjoyed a bit of XSLF this evening in my local. The X represents ‘ex’ as in ex Stiff Little Fingers. Two from the original band worked pretty well.

A great night, with two support bands. Good stuff. I didn’t take up the option of a nightcap, although I’m now home watching Mad Max, the first one.

Taddy

After lunch in the Ship, and a beer in the Cluny, we’re back outside the Tyne Bar to see the band. Currently covering Superstition. And doing a good job of it too.

Augustines II

In view of my second in command’s upset, we bought tickets to see Augustines in Glasgow.

And, rather than steal a poster, I asked if we could have it.

Augustines

My second in command has tears in her eyes. She just read that Augustines are calling it a day after this Autumn’s tour.

I have no tears, but I’m also disappointed with this news. A great live band, possibly the best I’ve ever seen.

Lord, I see red …

Mono

And, now, our first visit to Mono. I was only told about the place yesterday, a veggie bar-cafe-music shop.

We’re not hungry, but the menu is impressive. They even stock Sam Smith’s beer too.

iPod

A couple of years ago, I (nervously) replaced the battery of my old 4th generation iPod.

Sadly, while the transplant was a success, the hard drive failed a few months later. Bashing the iPod (advice from the internet) brought the device back to life, but only for a little while. After which the iPod was consigned to the drawer of cables.

Of late, I’ve been considering a new one. But I read a useful instructable  a few days ago. Which then led to the discovery that modifying old iPods is becoming popular.

I have now purchased some bits and pieces. Naturally, should the project fail, I may not mention my old iPod again.
