My uncle Ed

I’m now in my local, having watched Liverpool beat Arsenal 4-3. There’s a band playing in the room next door. Roxy Musique. Which is a bit weird, since my uncle Ed went to school in Washington with Mr Ferry.

My uncle Ed was a great bloke; wish I’d taken time to get to know him better.

Batteries and Cats

As part of a major battery replacement exercise, my 1992 swamp monster has now been revived.

Note that the eyes are alight on the second picture.

After repairing my swamp monster, we went to Centurion to see the Happy Cats  with my mother and sister, and Sooze’s dad. And my niece and her other half.

I’m now in my local for a nightcap. All is good.

The Glastonbury flower

Our garden has an almost dead flower. I buy random packets of bulbs and failed to make a note of the name. Along with a companion (sadly cut down with a trimmer a month ago), it’s been part of our garden for a few years.

In the absence of a formal name, it’s been known as the Glastonbury flower, because I’ve only ever seen some growing by Bella’s bridge.

Named after Arabella Spencer-Churchill.

The Ship, Ouseburn

We’ve had a most pleasant afternoon in Ouseburn today.

After a pint in town, in the Split Chimp, we caught a bus to Lime Street and walked to the Cluny. Walking past the Ship, we noticed an unusual barbeque outside.

The menu was 100% vegan. So, after a pint of Jakehead in the Cluny, we decided on a beer in the Ship. When talking to the chef, we found that the pub is now vegan. A vegan pub in Newcastle!

We shared a portobello mushroom burger and a chilli wrap; both were great.

Then there was a walk to the Tyne Bar for a pint of Sam Smith’s Taddy lager and live music. We’re currently with Erdinger and Budvar in the Bridge Hotel. All in all, a most pleasant afternoon.

She Bop

Most people probably know Cyndi Lauper for one song. Foremost, that is; there were two others. Or three if you recall that Spielberg film.

But most people won’t recall She Bop. Because it was banned in the UK (Scotland too). BBC radio wouldn’t play it, even though it’s quite lovely and (perhaps a little) ahead of its (no apostrophe needed) time.

I was somewhat surprised this evening when Ms Lauper sang She Bop. Most people don’t get the subject matter and, thanks to the BBC, won’t know the song. She plays Glastonbury tomorrow. It’ll be interesting to see whether the BBC will cover the song if she goes for it.

Anyway, she was somewhat amazing this evening. There was stuff from the new album, some She’s So Unusual and True Colours material, but also songs I’d not expected.

Father Neil Hannon

My youngest child has been hinting for tickets to see the Divine Comedy as a birthday present. I may have explored such things before hints, but Ticketmaster seemed to have lost my debit card details and had refused to let me update them. So I gave up an paid by credit card.

Mr Lydon

Along with many men of a certain age, Dave and I went to see Public Image Limited yesterday evening, at the Point, in Sunderland. All told, an excellent evening.
