I have to say that Punk Pop Disaster were pretty cool in my local this evening.

Clem Burke
Well, I was impressed with Clem Burke’s performance last night. Buying tickets was something of a random act a few months ago, I had mixed feelings over a gig with a tribute band and thought there was a chance it could go horribly wrong.
But it didn’t. Bootleg Blondie were surprisingly good and Mr Burke was very much centre stage. My only regret is cancelling my day off today.
It was, though, somewhat disheartening to learn that it’s now 40 years since Parallel Lines was released. I still have my original copy.
A divine evening
Much of New Year’s Eve was spent in the Sage.
In the company of these gentlemen.
The Divine Comedy.
Followed by fireworks.
Film 4
I quite like Film 4’s Christmas commercial. Well, perhaps not the commercial itself; the soundtrack’s great. Eels’ Everything’s gonna be cool this Christmas.
Aynsley Lister
After going to a run of Ainsley Lister gigs, including two at Glastonbury, I’d not seen him play for a few years, until last night.
OK, so he’s a little self indulgent at times, but that’s easy to forgive because he plays so well.
A man with real talent.
M A D N E S S
Eleven years ago, I saw Madness at Newcastle arena. It was an uncomfortable evening, since I had freshly broken ribs, but it was a must because there hadn’t been a tour in years.
Now, Christmas gigs are the norm, although I’d not been to one since they switched from the academy to the arena. Last night’s tickets were something of a random purchase; I don’t really like the arena as a venue, but alcohol influenced my purchase.
Anyway, I was happy with the outcome.
Generally, I don’t bother with support bands, but the Fratellis were worth seeing.
Snow Patrol
A Wednesday night’s never the best timing for a gig, but Snow Patrol were pretty good last night.
Belgrave music hall
I was really impressed with the Belgrave music hall last night. Not only is it a great venue, there’s a very respectable vegan menu.
We only went to see the support band, Felix Hagan and the Family. Who were astounding.
Arkells were worth seeing too.
Shiverin Sheiks
Yesterday was the third time we’ve seen the Shiverin Sheiks this year.
And a most pleasant afternoon it was too.
Fuck it
Well, the Lovely Eggs were stupidly good last night.
Fuck it, oh yeah …
