Brum

I’m having a pre-train pint of Maisel’s Weisse in the Wellington, in Birmingham. I now realise why I’ve had a déjà vu kind of day, thinking I’d been in Brum recently, but knowing I hadn’t. Until I came in here. Then I remembered a meeting around the end of last year. I ended up in here with a bloke from my team and had several pre-train pints. I think I slept the whole way home, which is unusual for me.

Anyway, I can recommend both the pub and the beer. Time for a second I think.

Bike ride

Today we went out on our bikes. We cycled along the Tyne, to Pelaw (-ish), stopping at the Cricketers for refreshment. We also fed veggie scotch eggs to a dog before heading back, via the Schooner, then crossing over to the Newcastle side of the river. Where we visited the Tyne Bar. Followed by the Cluny. And, back in Gateshead, the Victoria. All in all, an enjoyable day.

Wortley Almshouses

I’m currently with my book in the Wortley Almshouses, my favourite Sam Smith’s pub, with my book. I love the pub, but so wish I was here under different circumstances.

Sunderland

Yesterday, we went to Sunderland. Our main reason for being there was a visit to the dentist, but we do rather like the Isis. So we had to call in.

And then I introduced my second in command to what used to be the Clarendon. A pub with a view.

Peterborough

A meeting in London with an earlier than expected finish led me to stop off in Peterborough. During which time I refreshed a tiny part of some gorgeous times.

And some less nicer times; for instance, my regular Monday morning seat where I waited for the train home.

And, I know that times change and the world moves on. But I’ll miss the old artwork in the subways near the station – even though the runes painted on the wall didn’t make sense).

Jeff Goldblum drinks Erdinger

Still aching after this afternoon’s bike ride, and after escorting my second in command to work, while walking through town I decided to call into the Bridge for a pint of Erdinger. Just the one, I should say.

It was most enjoyable too. I sat in our usual seat(s), slowly drinking my beer while buying bike bits from eBay. Until, around two thirds of the way down my pint, that is. That’s when I noticed the huge fly floating in my beer.

Disgusting animals.

Bank holiday

I had a most pleasant bank holiday Monday yesterday. We had a walk to the Schooner, via Visocchi’s. The Schooner had an afternoon of live music, so we stayed there a little while. It was nice to sit outside in the sunshine, listening to music. Making the most of the weather, we walked along the river and crossed over to the Tyne Bar. The place was busy, inside and out, but we managed to find seats. After two or three pints of Taddy Lager and veggie burgers, we set off home. Stopping off at the Bridge. An enjoyable day.

The Three Tuns

My local is being decorated. Well, more than just decorated. After so many years of abuse and economy driven makeovers, real money seems to be being spent on the place. The bar’s even being replaced.

I’m avoiding bar pictures because it’s too unfinished. But the ladies’ toilets are supposed to be open tomorrow.

A bad day

I’ve had a really bad day. Work was great, but it’s been a long day and I had (the usual) train issues. But, then, I disembarked from the bus (the bus decides how my evening should end; the X1 takes me home, while the 56 or 57 take me home) at my local drinking establishment. And they have Anarchy ‘Rough justice’ on tap. It has no fish, so I had to have one.

I’m now on my fourth. I have yet to eat and I have work tomorrow. However, I have made a new friend. His name is Keith. And he’s a really decent bloke. We’ve had good manly conversation.

I should go home now.
